Lincoln Parks & Rec’s Sunken Gardens
September, 2024
Bailey and I ventured to Sunken Gardens in Lincoln, Nebraska, on September 12 to assess the vitality of the plants and flowers for an upcoming photo shoot.
I have never been much of a flower guy, so I just simply wasn’t sure if the colors of the plants would still be vibrant or if they were in the beginning stages of dying for the year. I did have a request of potentially taking photographs for someone that was seeking somewhere with flowers that still had a good bloom. Growing up, my mom would bring my sister and me to Sunken Gardens for any sort of photographs of us. While, at the time, I didn’t appreciate it and I’m sure I would complain about it, that certainly came in handy this day. I must admit that I was surprised with how stunning the plants and flowers still were this late in the year. Though it has been an extremely hot year for September, with many days in the upper 80s and even a few 90s.
As soon as we entered the park, we knew that this was going to work perfectly for the shoot. So now, our mission was to scout out a few spots.
We quickly nailed down a time for the following day to bring down our subjects. The shoot went very well, especially being someone that doesn’t take on a lot of portrait work. We were pretty lucky with getting many of our locations in the park all to ourselves just long enough to capture the photographs and allow others to enjoy the park too.
While in the park, I did see a squirrel carrying acorns in it’s mouth for winter storage.
