Taking Lake Louise Home With Us
In October, 2019, Bailey and I took our first trip to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Banff has been at the top of my bucket list for a few years now. How we decided to visit is an excellent story for another post (when it comes, ill link it here). I will always remember Banff vividly and how absolutely incredible it was! It was all so stunningly beautiful, but Lake Louise stuck out to us, we even visited it 3 different days during our 6 day trip. I had to bring Lake Louise home with me to keep it near forever.
Our First Sight Of Lake Louise
In the video above, you can see our proper and true first reaction to seeing Lake Louise. Walking down that path and coming around the trees to see it all open up was absolutely breathtaking—you can hear it in the video.
The calm waters sit at the base of two enormous and beautiful mountains. The water is such a stunning blue/green from that level and you can see right through it.
Hiking The South Shore Of The Lake
Our second visit to Lake Louise, we decided to we it from a different angle, so we hiked along the south shore. There was a path packed into the snow where others had hiked before, but not many had from what we could tell. This is where we found the isolated rock in the water and filled our water canister with Lake Louise water (this can be seen in the video above).
Hiking To The Fairview Lookout
On our final visit to Lake Louise, we made the hike up the mountain some to the Fairview Lookout. This hike was somewhat challenging especially with the snow being so packed down it was close to ice. There were a few small sections that got pretty steep and it was tough to figure out a way to get past them. In the end, the hike was enjoyable and worth every second to get the amazing view from the lookout.
Taking Lake Louise Home With Us
A tradition that began just a few months before our Banff trip was dipping necklaces into the water of places we wanted to keep near our hearts. The necklaces were purchased in Door County, Wisconsin. They’re made from the sand of Lake Michigan and resin from the great lake as well.
With how much Lake Louise meant to us during this trip, we knew that we had to take the lake home with us. It’s a way for us to say “see you later” until we return. Now, I wear the necklace everyday and smile when I think about where it’s been and what it’s carrying.
