The Last Of Us HBO Is Finally Here!

I was really late to The Last Of Us fandom. The original game was released in 2013 and I didn’t play it until 2020 when the remastered version was released. I played the entire game in just one weekend simply because of how incredible the story and experience was. This story quickly became one of my all-time favorites while including movies, TV shows, books, and more.

I then quickly jumped into The Last Of Us Part II game. While I didn’t love this as much as the original, I still really, really enjoyed the game. I became incredibly excited about the potential for a third game as there is still so much of the story to be told. During all of this time, I kept thinking that this story would be perfect for a movie or TV series. I didn’t have to wait for long before they announced that HBO was going into production of a TV series for The Last Of Us.

It seemed like forever that fans of The Last Of Us would see updates about the show during the filming stages. Behind-the-scenes images were released, information about filming locations in Canada, and so much more just kept coming. It just seemed as though the time would never come, but it finally has.

Episode 1 of the show was released on January 15 and became the second most-viewed premiere on HBO, behind only The House Of The Dragon.

Cast

  • Joel Miller — Pedro Pascal

  • Ellie Williams — Bella Ramsey

  • Sarah Miller — Nico Parker

  • Marlene — Merle Dandridge

  • Tess — Anna Torv

  • Tommy Miller — Gabriel Luna

The first episode was fantastic, there was so much respect for the game while giving us a little more and forming the story to better fit the medium. There were a couple of moments in the show that matched even the angle and shots the game presented. It was a nice little nod to the players of the game, just reminding us that Naughty Dog is making this for us.

This show can’t match the game entirely, it’s a different medium. While the production is still intended to give fans of the story another outlet, they do have to make sure that it fits a TV standard. All I can say is The Last Of Us is certainly worth getting an HBO subscription for.
