Finding A New Workflow
There’s Always Bad With The Good
Recently, I went through a pretty major lifestyle change, one that I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. While it has been extremely incredible to be living this dream life, there are always negatives that come along with the positives.
Thus far, I’ve found that I’m having an issue with something that I didn’t think would be as much of an issue as it’s proving to be. Just before moving into our RV, I had nailed down a pretty solid workflow for producing and publishing my photography. While working 40+ hours per week, I didn’t have time to work on everything that I wanted to work on and moving into an RV full-time has given me the opportunity to do so. The goal is not to lose progress on my photography, however.
Editing My Photography
Our biggest fear when moving into an RV was internet and having enough access. For Bailey, it was much more crucial with her job, for myself I figured that my phone and iPad would suffice for the internet that I need. I have the capability of editing my photography on both my iPad and iPhone, however the app doesn’t allow me to merge photos and that’s a big part of my editing. Again, I didn’t think this would be a problem and thought I would be able to edit on my computer for merging.
I use Lightroom CC and keep all of my photos on the Adobe Cloud. I know that without internet, I can’t access the cloud, however, I added almost all of my photos via my computer and that initiates uploading to the cloud with saving to my computer’s hard drive. Turns out, as soon as it uploads, it removes the files from the hard drive. This is nice for storage, but is unfortunate when trying to edit without access to the internet.
Where’s The Positive?
While I reversed the saying at the beginning of this post, there is always good that comes with the bad. For years now, I’ve wanted to write more: blog posts, stories, etc. With limited access to the internet and spending much of my time in the RV while Bailey works, I have had much more time dedicated to writing. Along with writing, I’ve been able to work on our travel video editing and publishing.
Editing Videos
While editing my photographs has become more difficult, editing videos has become easier. All my video files are locally stored and edited on my hard drive. I’ve spent many years attempting to edit the videos from our travels. I’ve done well to edit and publish videos once per week for a few months now. I’m currently working on the back log of videos, before I move on to our current RV lifestyle.
Writing
From a young age, teachers told me that I was a strong writer. I didn’t necessarily plan to make a career of writing, however, I’ve known for a while that writing was a strength and something that I should use for additional creative works. A few years ago, I began listening to audiobooks (that’s really the only form of reading that I truly have time for). Since high school, I’ve wanted to tell stories, but at that time wanted to do so via movies or TV. Then, once I began listening to books, I realized this was a much better option.
Prior to RV life, I had begun the planning and developing stages of writing stories, but always seemed to lose time to dedicate towards them. Similar to video editing, it seemed to be moved to the back burner at the early stages and became something I continuously told myself I wanted to do and need to do, but where’s the time to do it? Sure, I kept up with writing blog posts for my website and that was something that helped feed my writing hunger, but now I want more.
What’s Next?
Well, since I’ve seemed to come up with a decent workflow and motivation for the projects that I couldn’t seem to accomplish in my previous lifestyle, now I need to figure out how to add photo editing into that workflow as well. Obviously, the biggest hurdle is internet and having all editing tools that I have on my computer or having access to the photographs without internet access. It’s something to toy with, but once I figure it all out, be ready for a tidal wave of work to come from Liam Theo Creative and Littles & Bigs Adventures!
While this post wasn’t a tutorial like some may have expected or hoped for, hopefully this was somewhat entertaining and brought to light a few problems that you may run into with your future plans.
