Tahquamenon Falls, Upper Peninsula, Michigan

Tahquamenon Falls was not a planned destination for this trip, but I am so glad that we went. When we left our hotel that day, I just expected to visit Sault Saint Marie and the shore of Lake Superior. I knew we would find some beautiful areas along the way, but in typical Bailey fashion, she already had found Tahquamenon Falls and was taking us in that direction.

Upper Falls

Tahquamenon Falls is one of those places that has an upper and a lower falls area—after traveling as much as I have, this is pretty common. We visited the upper falls first, not for any particular reason.

Lower Falls

The lower falls may not be as large as the upper falls, but the unique landscape and layout is what truly gives these falls their beauty. On the day I visited, the water below the falls was surprisingly calm. The trees filled all the area not taken by the river and just made for a very peaceful viewing experience.

Walk Through The Trees

With numerous paths, visitors of the falls are able to hike the majority of the area and see all it has to offer. This is actually one of the few areas in Michigan that has a moose population, so we were on the lookout in hopes of spotting one, but sadly weren’t so lucky.
